STL Converters

Move geometry between mesh formats with local processing.

BUILT FOR THE IN-BETWEEN.

Free, Private and No Sign-Up

This STL editor is free, with no account, sign-up or monthly usage limits. Work within the file limits: one input at a time, up to 25 MiB and 400,000 triangles. Converters also enforce archive and memory safeguards; complex models can exceed device memory.

Open the editing workspace

Private by default

The STL editor processes files locally in your browser; model files are never uploaded. Save your download before leaving because there is no cloud project or autosave.

Check a CAD export

Inspect a tessellated CAD export’s silhouette and overall size before sharing a prototype. A preview cannot verify hole tolerances or reconstruct CAD features.

Prepare a part before slicing

Use this free STL editor for size and orientation corrections before slicing. Resize a display model to fit your printer bed, leaving space for supports. Mesh repair requires other software.

How the Online STL Editor Works

01

Bring your model

Drop an ASCII or binary model into the workspace, or try the sample cube first. Check the starting dimensions so you have a reference for every change.

02

Make your adjustment

Use the STL editor controls to scale, rotate or move the entire mesh. Apply one change at a time and compare the dimensions; undo if the result is not what you intended.

03

Take it with you

Export a binary file with your adjustments included. Reopen it to verify the result, then check your slicer settings and clearances before starting a long print.

Learn how to apply whole-model transforms.

.STL
Supported Formats

The editor imports ASCII or binary STL and exports binary STL. Dedicated tools convert between both encodings, convert 3MF geometry, reduce triangles or create SVG cross-sections. Processing stays local; file limits apply.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

STL Editor FAQ

Is STL Editor Online free to use?

Yes. Whole-model transforms, previews, measurements and binary export are free, without an account. Use the workspace above or choose a focused tool for your task.

Where can I check a model’s overall size?

Use the dedicated measurement workspace for overall dimensions, surface statistics and a downloadable report. Open the STL measurement tool.

How do I resize or reduce the scale of a model for 3D printing?

To reduce STL scale uniformly, enter 50 percent to halve every dimension, or set a target dimension with proportions locked. Scaling also changes holes, clearances and wall thickness, so check the resulting size and your print setup before exporting.

Is my STL file uploaded to a server?

No. The online STL editor parses models, applies changes and creates downloads in your browser. Models are not sent to a server or saved between sessions. Export before refreshing or switching tools; navigation clears your model and undo history.

Can I edit 3D printer models without CAD software?

Yes, for whole-mesh changes. The STL editor can scale, rotate and move a downloaded part. Individual vertex edits, cuts and boolean operations are outside its scope. Use CAD software to redesign a mounting hole or change a specific feature.

Does STL store units?

No. The format stores coordinates without physical units; this STL editor interprets them as millimeters. If the source was designed in inches, confirm its intended size before applying a conversion such as 25.4 times. Check dimensions again in your slicer because importing software may use a different unit assumption.

Can I edit 3D models online on a phone or tablet?

The preview needs JavaScript, Web Workers and WebGL. Touch orbit, pinch zoom and two-finger pan help you inspect parts. The STL editor accepts up to 25 MiB and 400,000 triangles; larger meshes work best on a desktop with more memory.

Will the exported file include my changes?

Yes. The STL editor writes transformed vertex coordinates into a binary download, rather than saving only a camera view. Reopen the result, verify dimensions and review orientation, supports and fit in your slicer. Export does not certify a mesh as watertight or guarantee that a part is printable.
